But how the heck do you get here?? Well, it’s easier than you might think! Choose from any number of daily flights, a scenic drive, or even a ferry boat ride. It's accessible via a variety of means of transport - by air, land, and sea! Below are details to ensure your travels and safe and successful.

Traveling to Key West


By Air

Flying is typically the fastest and most convenient way to get to Key West. Key West International Airport (EYW), which is conveniently located only minutes from downtown, and accommodations, serves major airline carriers like Delta, American Airlines, United, and more with daily flights. You can catch a direct flight to Key West from the following locations US hubs: Dallas, Atlanta, Boston, Newark, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and other major airports (click here for a full list). If you’re flying from any other airport, your flight will likely be routed through Miami or Fort Lauderdale with service to Key West. For those who want a more personalized flying service (or who can share the expense among friends or family), private charters also operate along this route. Reputable charter companies worth considering include evoJets and Air Key West.

A more affordable option than a private jet, Keys Seaplanes offer floatplane services that can get you to pretty much any point around Key West - even directly to your resort. They also offer a variety of fun sightseeing flights.

By Land

Rental Car:

If you are looking for a roadtrip, we recommend renting a car from MIA or FLL and cruising down to Key West. The Overseas Highway is a one-of-a-kind experience. A series of bridges and islands extend nearly 90 miles off the mainland until its end at U.S. Highway 1 mile marker zero: Key West.

Driving from Miami International International Airport (MIA)

  • 159 miles (256 km) / 4 hour drive to Key West


Driving from Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL)

  • 188 miles (302 km) / 4.15 hour drive to Key West 

Along the drive, you can check what the rest of the Keys look and feel like. There are tons of entertaining stops, and the drive itself is lined with brilliant blue beaches and gorgeous green trees. 

Once in Key West, you will not use a rental car much. Mostly everything is within a short, charming walk, or a very quick Uber. Many guests return their car at the airport when they arrive, and pick another one back up at the end of their stay.

Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz. Off-airport rental car companies include: Enterprise, Alamo, and National.


For those who aren't in a hurry (it can take up to five hours) – the regular bus service between Miami and Key West is certainly a good option. Greyhound Lines offer frequent daily departures, including pickups and drop-offs at Miami International Airport and and Key West, for as little as $20 each way.

A smaller bus experience can be enjoyed via Keys Shuttle, which offers frequent daily service between Miami and Key West – as well as regional airports – and most destinations in between.

By Sea

While there is no regular ferry service between Miami and Key West, there are still a few different options for those determined to arrive by water. Your best bet is to look into a charter boat. Miami Charters offer a variety of options, from high-speed boats to laid-back sailing yachts, as well as fishing charters.

Worth mentioning for those traveling from the Gulf coast of Florida, the Key West Express offers a daily service to Key West from Fort Myers and Marco Island. Departures are early morning, with return voyages taking place late afternoon.
